The Original Sin
I'm an activist. An activist is one who tries hard to understand why all the bad things are happening and to find a way to fix it. I also try hard to understand what the world's problem is.
Until decades ago, so-called the left believed that biggest problem in the world is the classism. Many people tried hard to remove the classism and some even built socialist countries. However, they could not prevent another classism called beurocracy from happening. I guess it is because the classism is not the source of the problems but just one aspect.
Feminists finds the problem from chauvinism, patriarch or macho-ism of the male-dominant society. I mostly agree with it. The chauvinism at home connects to a chauvinism and violence in the society which becomes a hegemonism or millitarism of states. We can see the chauvinism and violence everywhere. We observe them not not only from the super power states like the US but also from the small opposing forces such as North Korea. We observe them not only from the right wing people but from the white activism and also from the people of color's activism.
I sometimes think that if our society becomes female-dominated we will live in a much more peaceful environment. However, my wife does not agree with me. She thinks that women also have the same level of violence in them. She said that when we look back into the history the many women who were in power were more cruel and millitant than men. I have to agree with her. In fact, it all starts from this human nature -- "tendancy to trample on others" or PRIDE (arrogance) -- which results these violence. In a male-dominant society, only ways for a woman to top others are either to control a man in power (sideeffect: jealousy) or to overpower men by becoming more millitant than them.
Yes, it is the "pride" in human nature that causes all the problems in the world. President Bush and many right wing people have this arrogance to think that they have to "deliever" democracy to stupid Iraqis and started a war to kill hundreds of thousands then thought that they helped Iraqis. Many of the left wing people are also arrogant enough to think that they are the only ones who know what's going on and think all the right wing people are either stupid or bad without even talking to them. The pride in the human nature IS the chauvinism at home, the violence of the society, and the millitarism in the world.
Of course, I'm not the first person to think it. After all, isn't the "original sin" of the Bible pride? So many verses of the Old and the New Testiments condems it. God detests pride. However, it's the Christians and the Jews and many religious leaders (who bosses around their "lambs") who are the most arrogant ones. That's pretty sad. The most fundamental teaching of the Bible is ignored by so-called the religious believers.
However, it doesn't depress me that much. It will be another arrogance if I think that I'm the only voice in the wilderness. I have to first look back myself. I also see myself filled with arrogance. First thing first.. remove my arrogance.. then chauvinism at my home.. then violence in my society.. that will bring world peace.
